What makes it good

  • Colours you have to invent

Mixer tubes turn red + yellow into orange and blue + yellow into green. The colour a level needs often is not on the board yet.

  • 200 levels, five chapters

Hidden liquids, locked tubes, frozen vials and one-way flow arrive chapter by chapter, so the rules never stop moving.

  • Five ways to play

Levels, Daily Mix, Zen, Endless Mix and Weekly Lab — a streak, a score chase and a no-clock mode in the same app.

About the game

Who it’s for

For anyone who wants a relaxing puzzle that still respects their brain — a commute-sized session, or a long evening in the lab.

Chroma Lab is a water sort game with one idea the rest of the genre never had: you can mix. Pour glowing liquids between tubes until every colour sits in its own vial — except some of the colours a level asks for are not on the board yet. Tip red onto yellow at a mixer tube and you get orange. Blue over yellow makes green. A plain sorting puzzle quietly turns into a colour mixing puzzle, and every level starts asking you to think two pours ahead.

There are 200 handcrafted levels across five themed chapters — Lab, Alchemy Cellar, Neon Diner, Ocean Glass and Space Station — and each chapter brings a mechanic that changes how you plan. Hidden liquids conceal what sits under the surface. Locked tubes stay shut until you earn them. Frozen vials thaw one pour at a time, and one-way tubes only accept liquid flowing the right direction. Recipe levels drop plain sorting altogether and ask you to engineer an exact set of colours instead.

Every level is machine-verified before it ships, and that cuts both ways: it is always solvable with real planning, and mindless tapping will get you stuck. Difficulty ramps honestly — gentle tutorials first, genuine traps later. Buttery pour animations, satisfying glass dings and a calm lab soundtrack make each solve feel as good as it looks, and colourblind-friendly symbols sit on every colour so the puzzle stays about logic rather than hue.

Five ways to play keep it alive well past the story map: the 200-level campaign with stars, chests and bosses; a Daily Mix recipe puzzle with a streak worth protecting; Zen for endless relaxed sorting with unlimited undo and no clock; Endless Mix for a rising-difficulty score chase; and Weekly Lab, seven themed challenges that refresh every week. Coins you earn along the way go into Color Hint, Pipette and Extra Vial boosters — no pressure, and no paywalls.

Questions

Is Chroma Lab free?
Yes. Chroma Lab is free to download and play. You earn coins as you play and spend them on Color Hint, Pipette and Extra Vial boosters — there are no paywalls.
What makes it different from other water sort games?
Mixing. Most water sort puzzles only ask you to separate colours that already exist on the board. Chroma Lab adds mixer tubes, so you pour red onto yellow to create the orange a level actually needs.
Are the levels always solvable?
Every one of the 200 levels is machine-verified before release, so each is solvable with planning rather than luck. When a plan goes wrong, a Color Hint, a Pipette or an Extra Vial can bail you out.
